NJ TRANSIT operates 852 trains per week that stop at the new Newark Liberty International Airport Station, including 640 weekday trains (128 per day) and 212 weekend trains (106 per day). Specific NJ TRANSIT arrival and departure times are available in Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line timetables.
AirTrain service operates frequently to connect with NJ TRANSIT arrival and departure times. AirTrain will cease running to the Newark Liberty International Airport Station when trains are not in service, approximately 2:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

When you fly into the airport, after claiming your baggage, you can board AirTrain to connect with NJ TRANSIT train service to New York City, or to points in New Jersey. Check a NJ TRANSIT train departure monitor in any of the airport terminals (A, B or C) to determine which train to take to your destination or to make appropriate connections.
You can purchase a ticket from one of the ticket vending machines (TVMs) at the Newark International Airport Station. TVMs accept credit cards, debit cards or U.S. currency only. Have your employer call (973) 491-7600 for information on BusinessPass and TransitChek, and other Transit Benefits programs.

Where to Start Look on a Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line timetable and find the station closest to you. To locate departure and arrival times, refer to the timetable, or call 1 (800) 772-2222. By connecting at major terminals, the station can be reached from the Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Boonton, Main/Bergen County and Pascack Valley lines (see "Rail Connections" section).
Getting to an NJ TRANSIT Station We recommend that you arrange to be dropped off or take a taxi to your train station. Available parking at stations is limited.
Purchasing Your Ticket Ticket vending machines (TVMs) are located at all stations along the Northeast Corridor and many stations along the North Jersey Coast Line and at our major terminals in New York, Secaucus, Newark and Hoboken. You can purchase your ticket with a credit card, debit card or cash.
Planning Your Return Trip Be aware of the train schedule in preparation for your return trip, especially if you plan to return in the evening or early morning.
Traveling Light There is limited space available on NJ TRANSIT trains, so make sure you travel light. Remember to always keep an eye on your luggage.
Arriving at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station
Once you arrive at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station, you need to transfer to AirTrain to get to the airport terminals. Cross over the pedestrian bridge and follow signs to AirTrain. You must go through a fare payment gate with a valid magnetic ticket that includes the access fee. If your ticket does not include the access fee, you must purchase it at a ticket vending machine located along the pedestrian bridge. The access fee for passengers traveling through the Newark Liberty International Airport Station without a magnetic ticket is $5.50 of which $3.50 is collected on behalf of the Port Authority of NY & NJ. These tickets are available from TVMs at the station.
Taking AirTrain to a Terminal AirTrain service runs frequently throughout the day to Terminals A, B and C. Directories identifying airlines serving each terminal are located at the station and on AirTrain cars.
Arriving at the Terminal Once you arrive at the terminal, check in with your airline. Be sure to allow extra time to check baggage and pass through security.
Your Return Trip Check an NJ TRANSIT train departure monitor (located at AirTrain entrances) to confirm your departure time. (Note: Taxi and limo service, as well as passenger pick up, are not available at the Newark International Airport Station.)
If you did not purchase your return trip ticket in advance, you should purchase a ticket from a ticket vending machine located at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station. Luggage carts cannot be used to transport luggage to train platforms.

Fares & Ticket Options
NJ TRANSIT fares to the Newark Liberty International Airport Station are based on distance traveled, similar to the cost of traveling to other rail stations. Only one-way tickets or monthly passes are available for travel to or from the Newark Liberty International Airport Station. These tickets/passes are magnetically encoded and allow passage through the fare gates at the station. An access fee is applicable and is included in the cost of your ticket or pass to and from the station. Tickets for use at the Newark Liberty International Airport Station are available from ticket vending machines at stations. For NJ TRANSIT fares, call 1 (800) 772-2222.
Monthly Passes save you approximately 30 percent compared to regular one-way fares and are valid for unlimited trips throughout the calendar month. Only monthly passes purchased with the Newark International Airport Station as the origin or destination will allow passage through the fare gate. These passes will include a $46 Port Authority access fee. If your monthly pass is for a destination other than the airport, you will be required to pay an access fee to pass through the station.
If you work at the airport and plan to take NJ TRANSIT service regularly, we recommend that you purchase a monthly pass. Monthly passes can be automatically sent to your home or work site. Plus, you may be able to purchase your monthly pass at work. Legislation enables you to use pre-tax dollars towards your commute. One-Way Tickets can be used for one continuous ride between designated stations and are valid for one year in addition to the date of purchase. If you are traveling to the airport and plan to return via AirTrain and NJ TRANSIT, we recommend that you purchase two one-way tickets prior to departing from your boarding station.
Ticket Purchases On-Board Trains
Cash only, no bills over $20 for ticket purchases. Passengers boarding without tickets will be charged the regular fare to Newark Penn Station or North Elizabeth (depending on direction traveled) plus a $5.50 surcharge fee if ticket vending machines are available or the ticket office at their boarding station is open. Upon arrival at the station, you will be required to pay the access fee. Complete fare details, including Senior Citizen and Children’s fare information can be found on any rail schedule. Reduced fares for eligible riders do not apply to the access fee.

Service to the Newark Liberty International Airport Station is available on the Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line. Customers on the Raritan Valley Line can transfer to these lines at Newark Penn Station. Customers on all other NJ TRANSIT rail lines except the Atlantic City Rail Line can connect at Secaucus Junction.

The Newark Liberty International Airport Station and AirTrain system are fully accessible to people with disabilities and are equipped with escalators, elevators and stairs. To find out if the station you plan to travel from is accessible to customers using mobility devices, refer to the timetable for your rail line and look for the international symbol of accessibility. For assistance getting on and off the train, please inform your train crew. Be aware that train crews will not be available to assist with transporting luggage on and off the train. If you are traveling to New York, inform train personnel if you need to use an elevator upon arrival. When departing from New York, visit the NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak Customer Service Office to help you determine which elevator to use to access your connecting train.

Travel Tips
The Newark Liberty International Airport Station does not have a parking lot or drop-off area. This station is only accessible from rail service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines.
Buy your tickets in advance. Purchase tickets from NJ TRANSIT ticket vending machines prior to traveling or boarding.
If possible, plan to travel during off-peak hours or on weekends, especially if you are traveling with children.
Travel light, there is limited space for luggage.
Plan your return trip in advance bearing in mind there is no train service between approximately 2:00 a.m. - 4:30 a.m. If your flight arrives after the Newark Liberty International Airport Station has closed for the evening, you will need to take alternate ground transportation to your final destination.
We recommend you allow yourself at least 15 to 20 additional minutes between your arrival at the Newark International Airport Station and your arrival at the terminal, depending on which terminal you need to go to. Allow yourself additional time to check in with your airline, check baggage and pass through security prior to boarding your flight.
Always check with your airline well in advance of your trip to see if they suggest an earlier arrival time. Train schedules change at different times of the year so make sure you refer to a current schedule.
